Highway 1 Reflections: Traveling with a Friend on the Bhakti Path

During this part of the journey, I was heading north toward Los Angeles to pick up a friend who would be traveling back to North Carolina with me. Our first stop together was the Elephant Seal overlook on Highway 1. Seeing wild elephant seals in their natural habitat for the first time was striking—their sheer size and the way they moved across the sand felt almost prehistoric. Some were lounging in the sun, while others shuffled toward the water, creating a scene that felt both chaotic and peaceful at the same time.

Traveling with someone always shifts the rhythm of a trip. My thoughts and reflections don’t seem to run as deep as when I’m alone, but there’s a calm steadiness in having a companion on the road. It was especially meaningful to travel with someone who is also on a similar spiritual path, thinking about Krishna and the deeper purpose behind our journey. Two minds and hearts focused on devotion created a quiet strength and added a layer of intention to the trip, turning simple moments—like seeing the seals or driving along the coast—into reminders of Krishna’s presence in all living beings and places.
